Highlights

Information and data are increasingly inseparable; especially with AI analyzing both without distinction.

Yet, IM and data governance communities often struggle to align due to differing language and practices.

This session showcases a unified lifecycle model as a practical tool to bridge that gap. Developed through collaboration across the Government of Canada, the lifecycle helps practitioners find common ground and vocabulary.

We’ll share the challenges, insights, and outcomes from this work.

Participants will leave with a better understanding of how to collaborate across disciplines and strengthen governance because when it comes to managing information and data, we’re all in this together.

Background

The presenters of this session have worked with information and data practitioners from various organizations within the Government of Canada to try to find a common vocabulary to the journey information or data through its life cycle. These efforts have brought together data analysts, scientists, information managers, archivists and other professionals to try to find a common ground through exploring various data and information life cycles. Through this work, we have learned a lot about how the various groups create, manipulate, use, maintain, store and dispose of information and data. This has led to the development of a common vocabulary to describe the data and information lifecycle.
