Highlights
Often modern public-sector guidance treats data governance (ownership, quality, stewardship of raw datasets) and information governance (classification, access, retention, legal/archival obligations) as related but distinct disciplines.
Many public sector organizations struggle with the boundaries between data management and information management, but what if they didn’t have to?
Join us to learn about the City of Edmonton’s journey to align its enabling services to support the rest of the corporation in a unified manner that serves everyone’s needs.
Background
The presenter for this session, Sean Clovechok, Open City and Technology division, has worked at the City of Edmonton for over 10 years, developing and implementing a City-wide data strategy, data governance and management policies, stewardship frameworks, and an operating model, among other initiatives like Smart Cities Challenge.
Sean has a degree in Education from the University of Alberta and taught adults for 10 years, including eight years in South Korea, where he also worked as a voice actor on the radio. Upon returning from South Korea, Sean took Public Relations at MacEwan University and then completed online courses in Data Management through Johns Hopkins University.
Sean credits his background in education and communications for having helped him “sell” data governance at the City of Edmonton.
