Assessing B.C. Ministry of Finance’s Readiness for GDPR-Style Data Erasure

This talk explores the feasibility of implementing a data erasure policy – inspired by the European Union’s “Right to be Forgotten” – within the Ministry of Finance in B.C. Drawing on a mixed-methods research approach, this presentation will examine the Ministry’s current data management landscape and delve into the numerous considerations and challenges the Ministry might face in aligning with modern data privacy principles.

Speaker Bio:
Jen Peters, Ministry Information Management Officer for the Ministry of Finance in B.C., supports the management of key information resources and collaborates on information management initiatives. An active ARMA Vancouver Island member, she recently completed her Master of Information Management at Dalhousie University, where her research has centred on data erasure preparedness and privacy compliance in government.
